2024 RISAA Youth Fishing Camp
by Joe Coppola
We are fortunate in Rhode Island to have such a wonderful organization as the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association (RISAA) represent us in all matters related to saltwater fishing in the Ocean State. Its charter includes promoting the sport to all ages and, smartly, it understands the value of beginning at an early age. This is where the RISAA Youth Fishing Camp shines.
Breakheart Tributary Obstruction Removal
“Rhode Island Trout Unlimited and RIDEM Fish and Wildlife took the first step in restoring connectivity in the Breakheart Brook watershed by removing an obstruction in a tributary to Breakheart Pond. It was a great team effort with volunteers from RITU, RIDEM, Save The Bay and EA Engineering all showing up to lend a hand. Great job by everyone involved!”
Water Monitoring
Jeff Perry and Joe Coppola kicked off water monitoring on May 7 taking readings and water samples from four rivers - Moosup, Falls, Flat and Wood.
Flat River Dam Removal
Rhode Island TU and RIDEM are making a difference by removing a small dam on the Flat River in the Upper Wood River watershed, the premier cold-water habitat for native Brook Trout in Rhode Island. This small impoundment fostered thermal pollution and fish passage. It now flows free, cold and clear.
